Spoilers!

Kenna enters our life running, literally. She is an intense, justice-driven person who doesn’t let any grass grow under her feet. Though many misunderstand her, she doesn’t let it affect her goal and continues striving forward. ‘Cold Dead Night’ is fully from Kenna’s perspective.

Forced to face her past from two years ago with the FBI, the memories of Bradley’s death still haunt her. She struggles to overcome her feelings of guilt, even when it wasn’t her fault. After Almatter kidnapped Kenna and Bradley, a strong empathy for those who find themselves in the same situation grew within her. She holds relationships close, and when one betrays her, it affects her deeply.

The very beginning of a possible new romance drifts into Kenna’s life after she meets Special Agent Jaxton, who is tall, dark, and blue-eyed. First of all, she has to learn to trust him, and that is hard when he regards her with the utmost suspicion, and she fully reciprocates it. Not many can see past the barriers Kenna has so carefully constructed. Unfortunately for Kenna, Jax begins to take the time to look past her barbs and see what really lies behind.

My Views

I came across Lisa Phillips while trying to find a good mystery book. Especially without all the added profanity and sex that usually accompany the genre. I like the mystery to be first and foremost in a book. If there’s some romance, that’s okay, just keep it in the background.

The Brand of Justice series is the first I’ve read by Lisa Phillips. If you want a good mystery, I feel Phillips does a good job of meeting my requirements. As we all know, every author has their good points and where they lack a bit. Overall, this series is an interesting read, and I will continue to review the rest of it, although it seems that as the series progresses, details don’t match up, and people’s basic appearances are mysteriously changed. In my personal opinion, Phillips does the best with ‘Cold Dead Night’ out of the rest of the series.

My favorite part of reading mysteries… Using the clues throughout the book to see if I can solve the mystery before the main character does. Phillips does an amazing job at keeping things in suspense and twisting it up, but in the end, it all comes around to make sense. See if you can solve ‘Cold Dead Night’ before Kenna does!

Finally:

Let me know what you think of this read! I love hearing others’ opinions, and I will say right now, two of my sisters have a very different opinion of The Brand of Justice series. So feel free to NOT like it, to be ‘ehhh, or to love it! That’s the joy of reading, you can pick and choose.😊
